Lost WESH 2, MeTV or Story Television in Ocala? Here’s What May Be Happening

If you live in the Ocala area and recently lost WESH 2 NBC, MeTV, or Story Television, your antenna may not be the problem.

These channels are carried by the WESH Ocala transmitter, which operates on physical UHF Channel 19. In many cases, your television has always shown the channels as 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3, even though the actual signal is being transmitted on Channel 19.

That is where things can get confusing.

Why Does My TV Show 19.1 Instead of 2.1?

Digital television uses two different kinds of channel numbers.

The first is the physical RF channel used by the transmitter. In this case, the WESH Ocala transmitter uses UHF Channel 19.

The second is the virtual channel number your television normally displays. WESH is commonly shown as 2.1, even though the actual broadcast signal is coming to your antenna on RF Channel 19.

Recently, some viewers in the Ocala area have been seeing the channels appear as:

• 19.1 – WESH NBC
• 19.2 – MeTV
• 19.3 – Story Television

Instead of the familiar 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3.

This may be related to the channel-mapping information being sent by the Ocala transmitter. The important thing for viewers is that the programming may still be there — your television may simply need to find it again.

Try Rescanning Your Television

If WESH, MeTV, or Story disappeared from your channel lineup, try running a complete antenna channel scan.

Note: Rescanning may change or remove stored channels. Procedures vary by TV. If you are unsure, consult your TV manual or call us for help.

On many televisions, the steps will look something like:

MENU → SETUP or SETTINGS → ANTENNA → CHANNEL SCAN or AUTO PROGRAM

Make sure the television is set to Antenna, Air, or Over-the-Air, not Cable.

Allow the television to complete the entire scan.

After the scan, look for:

WESH NBC – possibly 19.1
MeTV – possibly 19.2
Story Television – possibly 19.3

Different television brands may display the channels differently.

Do You Need a New Antenna?

Not necessarily.

If you were receiving WESH, MeTV, and Story before this happened, a channel rescan may be all you need.

However, if the channels still do not return, there could be another problem with the antenna system, including:

• Weak signal
• Damaged coax cable
• Bad splitter
• Failed antenna amplifier
• Lightning damage
• Antenna movement or deterioration

That is when it may be time to have the system checked.
